We humans, being the most advanced of civilizations, always are in search of comfort and convenience whenever possible. We have found many ways to lower the stress of our daily tasks as well. We have invented machines to do our work. We also seek things that can give us the most desired comfort. Extra soft mattresses, cushions and blanket are also an example of the things that offer comfort. As a result, thousands of inventors work hard and come up with new ideas to transform our lives. Hence, now – a - days our whole lifestyle has become something about seeking comfort in every possible way.
Not long ago an inventor, with extreme dislike of doors, thought of a remarkable alternative. A sliding door was born. It was not just a door but also a device, which seemed to be aware of the presence of humans. Kids visiting grocery shops and super markets were surprised and fascinated by its ability to interact with humans. For these children it was like magic. The automatic sliding doors largely gained popularity in the world. Customers saw this as a tool of great convenience. At last, they were free to walk in their favorite super market without putting up with the effort to open the doors. They were able to easily walk out with their shopping bags full. These automatic glass sliding wall are now seen everywhere; in shopping malls, beauty salons, large offices etc. Today they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They just do not slide; they rotate, they fold, and interact with humans in ways never thought before.
However, there are some major drawbacks of using these operable glass walls. In some shopping malls, the door remains open for most of the time. The small size of the shops together with high customer turnover means that most customers pass by these doors only to trigger them to open. Hence, only huge shopping malls, with ample space, are the right candidate to be fitted with sliding glass doors.
These doors are also very fragile. This means that there is increased threat to security. Conventional glass doors are usually made up a solid steel frame with glass mounted within it. However, for commercial glass doors, its elegance and simplicity is what makes it easily destroyable. To prevent burglaries and terrorism there is need for stronger doors that can withstand huge stress and stand the test of time.
Another major disadvantage of these doors is the high cost of installation. This is largely due to special computer hardware and software needed to make them work. In addition to this, the doors have to be designed to minimize wear and tear. This helps to prolong its life, reduces maintenance cost, and its operational cost. This altogether increases cost of the system so that it is not affordable to all.
